BEST ISLAND DAY TRIPS FROM SUVA: FIJI HONEYMOON ISLAND

Where Is Honeymoon Island Fiji?

Honeymoon Island is located to the east of Fiji’s main island Viti Levu, not far from Suva. It lies within the Lomaiviti group of islands, which are much less visited by tourists, who instead often flock to the beautiful yet overpriced Yasawa and Mamanuca Island groups.

The Lomaiviti Islands are just as stunning and offer the perfect option to visit if you want to get away from the crowds and still enjoy luxury on beautiful isolated paradise islands. In addition, you can really get immersed in the Fijian culture and history when staying at the Lomaiviti Islands.

You can’t stay overnight at Honeymoon Island as it is a completely uninhabited island with no infrastructure, but Honeymoon Island lies roughly 3.5km south of Leleuvia Island which is a really authentic and absolutely beautiful island in the Lomaiviti group.

You can actually see Honeymoon Island from Leleuvia Island – that’s how we came to know this tropical paradise existed!

You can’t find Honeymoon Island on Google maps as it is just so small! It takes 1-2 minutes to stroll around the whole island!

How To Get To Honeymoon Island Fiji

To get to Honeymoon Island I first advise going to Leleuvia Island. It is 40 minute boat ride to Leleuvia Island from the mainland (Viti Levu). On the mainland Bau Landing is where you will take the boat to Leleuvia Island – it is located very near to Suva-Nausori Airport (10 minute taxi to the airport).

If you are coming from Suva City, the most convenient way to get to Bau Landing is by taxi (a taxi from Suva to Bau Landing is roughly $40FJD and should take around 25 minutes).

Alternatively for those more adventurous with time on their hands you can take a bus from Suva to Nausori, and then the local bus from Nausori to Bau Landing. If you get a bus from Suva to Nausori the journey should be around 1 hour and cost $2.21 with a TAP card. Buses come every 10 minutes or so.

Buses from Nausori Bus Station to Bau Landing run every hour, last about 25 minutes and cost $1.60. The bus stand is A10 (the sign just says ‘Bau’).

Note that Bau Landing is not a big port – there is literally a bench and a lady selling coffee.

The boat from Bau Landing to Leleuvia Island departs at 10am but you will need to confirm the boat transfer with Leleuvia Island Resort to ensure they have space.

Whether you intend to visit Honeymoon Island just for the day or if you plan to stay overnight you will need to liase your ferry times with Leleuvia Island Resort, not only the ferry for Bau Landing but the boat for Honeymoon Island as trips are only done on demand.

Generally speaking, if you get on the 10am ferry from Bau Landing you will arrive at Leleuvia Island at 10.40am. The boat will then depart from Leleuvia Island to Bau Landing between 3-4pm. The cost of the return ferry from Bau Landing to Leleuvia Island is $87.50FJD.

The ferry to Honeymoon Honeymoon Island from Leleuvia Island is just 10-15 minutes so you’ll have plenty time for the excursion.
